RESHAPING SOCIETY
MSE stands for Middle-South-East (Europe). The 4. MSE – Meeting takes place in Prishtina, Kosovo, in the heart of a European country which is still of uncertain status. More than 30 art institutions and initiatives from the MSE area gather for the three days meeting, which has been conceived as a forum for the exchange of experiences and ideas and for the discussion of relevant current topics.
In 2000, the MSE idea was established by Gregor Podnar in Ljubljana, to form a basis for discussion and co-operation, which would encourage a better flow of information and a wider exchange in exhibition practice and theory. The following two MSE – Meetings, in 2002 and in 2004, were initiated by < rotor > and took place in Graz. Topics like the relation between the local responsibility and the international appearance of art activities were discussed.
For 2006, the Contemporary Art Institute EXIT has invited < rotor > to co-organise the 4. MSE – Meeting. Together, they invited other art institutions and initiatives from the MSE area to take part in the meeting, to present and discuss their activities, which belong to the most interesting and innovative spots for contemporary art not only in the MSE region.
At the 4. MSE – Meeting the power and possibilities of the participating institutions and initiatives regarding their effects on society will be questioned. Their strategies in dealing with the social, political and economical circumstances of their respective countries are in the focus of interest. Generally speaking, is art (still) able to gain relevance in the process of development of the society?
