Kana Simplified is a Japanese Katakana font design, as the latest stage in Firfova's research on the visual aesthetics of letters, language and meaning. more

External activity │Travel research on contemporary art in the Netherlands │ Aleksandra Petrusevska, Velimir Zernovski and Liljana Pesovska (MK) │ The assistants of press to exit project space, Petrusevska and Zernovski, and the associate, Pesovska, had an opportunity to visit some of the most relevant and interesting institutions and individuals from the field of contemporary art and culture during their travel research in the Netherlands. They travel to three different cities (Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht) and visit the following spaces: Show Room MAMA from Rotherdam, Blue House in Amsterdam, the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, Expodium artist-run-space from Utrecht etc. The travel research was supported by the Step Beyond program of the European Cultural Foundation.

Presentation and conversation with curator Maia Damianovic (UK/AU) and artist Barbara Holub (AU) │ British-born curator and critic Maia Damianovic is on the forefront of the discussion focusing on the meaning and role of “public” space today and the development of new strategies for art in an already overly abused public space. Austrian artist Barbara Holub investigates the relationship between the art/ institutional space and the urban space. Through installations employing photography, video, drawing and other mediums she explores various patterns of „private“ and „public“ communication, often involving people from outside the art context to participate as „actors“.

Exhibition by the students from the department of Industrial Design at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Skopje (MK) │ This is the first exhibition of the Industrial Design students and aims to present the results of the first two years of study. The students, through exhibiting their works, would like to present their own views on current and future industrial products. Creating new forms, ergonomic interaction, multufunctionality, economicality and environmental awareness are the primary concerns of these young authors. The skill in using different means of expression such as drawings, physical models, computer drawings, three-dimensional computer models and animations has enabled the authors to successfully express their views on the whole product as well as the necessary details, thus attmpting to get their imagination closer to the potential user and the industrial production. more…

Returning to press to exit project space after a previous visit in 2006 for a two-week production residency to develop new work as a continuation from the ‘RUNNER project’.
‘RUNNER project’ investigates the constructed spaces that we build and live by through physical encounters with the urban environment and public space.
Using film, video and photography Feneck develops single screen, installation work and site specific interventions/events.

International Network | Yane Calovski, the artistic director of press to exit project space participating in Face-to-Face, an initial meeting for the I AM HERE, THE TIME IS NOW - an arts festival of performance and visual culture which will complement the present work of European Cultural Foundation (ECF). | I AM HERE, THE TIME IS NOW it is an event which is organised by ECF with Ong Keng Seng, theatre director and cultural producer from Singapore. The festival is envisioned for 2009 as a production influenced directly by, rather than through, its grantees. Its strategies are specifically through energising and harnessing art practices from Europe and around Europe. The meetings present a start of an enhanced process of connecting cultural advocacy and art production which can then lead to an ecosystem of arts and society interconnected with other ecologies. more…

Exhibition | Future-Perfect | The last exhibition in the gallery space of press to exit project space on Maksim Gorki 19 (in the Swiss Embassy) | The exhibition is part of the New Project Productionprogram for 2008, with Dejan Spasovic and Oliver Musovic as participants. These two artists have been long-term collaborators of the press to exit project space, so they have been invited to develop new works in a response to the idea of finitude. The performance of the renowned Macedonian hardcore punk band, FxPxOx, will form part of the show as well. We would like to dedicate this event to our dear friend and long-term collaborator Ratka Ilievska-Lale who left us so prematurely. more…

Research visit | Kai Vockler, Archis Interventions | Kai Vokler's research is conducted on behalf of Archis (as known for its magazine Volume) in order to establish a network of urban initiatives in the Western Balkans, to exchange experiences, and to develop further »action plans«. This research should lead to a conference and a publication in 2009 and is part of an overall approach Archis is working on. The network is currently working with Archis Interventions on projects in Beirut, Kabul, Prishtina, Mostar. Details on the network are available at www.archis.org more…

Special commissioned public project | Public Faculty no.1 | by the Dutch artist Jeanne van Heeswijk | This work questions the function of public space in a contemporary city and the notion of the increasing regulations and limitations that imply a disabled form of social interaction. “Public Faculty no. 1” will take place on the recognizable “Shkolka” (Shell) Stage in the Skopje City Park during 5 days in October from the 1st until the 5th each day from 12:00 -17:00 o’clock. During the designated hours, lessons, discussions and workshops will be staged. All the activities will be open to the public and will help define the local notions of “publicness”, its presence or non-presence in local, regional and wider European context, and its identity as a site for action and conflict. “Shkolka” (Shell) Stage will function as a “white board” where each day a new specific theme will be discussed and lectured about. more…

Talk, Screenings, Book Launch and Discussion | Public-Art Projects in the Ex-communist Stadium and the legacy of post-communist architecture by Joanna Warsza / Laura Palmer Foundation, Warsaw (Poland) | The event took place in the Macedonian Center for Photography, Skopje (Multimedia centre “Mala stanica”) at 7 p.m. | The 10-th Anniversary Stadium in Warsaw was built in 1955 from the rubble of a war-ruined Warsaw. It was to preserve Communism’s good name for forty years, by the mid-’80s, it fell into ruin, becoming a post-Communist phantom. It was ‘revived’ by Vietnamese intelligentsia-cum-vendors and Russian traders, pioneers of capitalism. An open-air market called Jarmark Europa became the only multicultural site in the city, a storehouse of biographies, a major tourist attraction, a primeval forest, a realm of precarity and discount shopping, or a work camp for botanists. more...

A series of collaborative and research-based workshops with a final exhibition | If you don’t have God, you’d better have a multiverse | 1:1projects (Rome) in partnership with Kadist Art Foundation (Paris) and press to exit project space (Skopje) presents three itinerant workshops taking place in Rome (25-27 September), Skopje (30 October – 1 November) and Paris (27-29 November) in which a group of invited participants will open discussions on the issues of time, space and its perception. Each workshop is envisioned as a moment of encounter and includes presentations by the participants; a guest lecture or intervention by an invited artist, scholar or scientist; and an event open to the general public.
